What is the (near) future of running Android apps inside Google Chrome?

From what I understand from public sources, the Android and Chromebook teams were combined and put under the same management back in 2013, so I strongly suspect we'll be seeing a fully combined kernel any day now. It would be foolish not to combine them given the costs associated with maintaining two incompatible OS architectures.

If we consider ChromeOS as a Linux distribution, what will be its rank in DistroWatch?

DistroWatch is based on hit statistics to their own web site, which is not a very reproducible and transparent measure of units, so it's difficult to say.

ChromeOS made up about 6% of overall consumer PC sales last year, which should easily make it the most popular Linux distro in terms of units sold, excluding mobile and Android of course.
